Abstract

The investigation was developed in the area of Yareyal belonging to the Ecological Reserve of Baitiquirí, municipality of San Antonio del Sur, province of Guantanamo, between the months of January and February of 2016. In it, a study of the structure and composition of the coastal forest was carried out. and subcostero. A total of 8 plots of 10 x 10 (100 m2) were randomly selected, floristic species present in the different defined strata were counted and the height and diameter were measured for the species over two meters. Alpha diversity was determined by analyzing the structure and composition of the species. A total of 47 species belonging to 42 genera and 30 families were obtained. The species Phyllostylon brasiliensis and Amyris elemifera were the most abundant and the most frequent, being important from the economic and ecological point of view. The community stands out for its microphilic leaves, coriaceous, membranous, succulent. According to the distribution of the diameter classes follow a distribution in the form of inverted jot, since it reveals the presence of trees of lower diameter class and less in the upper ones, being a victim of disturbances since above 10 cm in diameter there are very few individuals.
