Abstract

Among the most important species of forest diversity in Guanahacabibes are Vitex acunae, endemic categorized in danger and Swartzia cubensis, disjoint with Yucatan categorized in critical danger, of which there is no ecological information to define a management program. Twenty parcels were established in the towns of Cabo Corrientes, El Veral and La Bajada and a random sampling with standardized plots was used. In each plot, data on accompanying flora, regeneration, tree height and diameter were taken. According to the structure by diameter and height classes Swartzia cubensis presents a favorable situation, it has individuals in a juvenile and mature state, whereas Vitex acunae presents an unfavorable situation, it has very few individuals in a mature state. The sites where the species were studied have a low similarity value. This result suggests that the two species occupy different echoptopes. The species Vitex acunae is associated with a greater number of species, as well as a greater number of individuals. As for Swartzia cubensis, these results are related to the characteristics of the ecotopes, characteristic of the notophilic semideciduous forest of Guanahacabibes. However, the case of the Vitex acunae ecotype, typifies the characteristics of the Microfilo Evergreen Forest. Equity in both cases is high associated with lower dominance in these areas. The results obtained constitute a baseline that will allow the conservation of these species in their habitat.
