Optimization of the impregnation process of Eucalyptus sp. and Pinuscaribaea var. caribaea

Abstract

The present work was developed in the Base Business Unit of Impregnating Plant of Posts, belonging to the Macurije Agroforestry Company, Pinar del Río Province, Cuba, during the months of November 2017 to March 2018, with the objective of making an economic valuation of the impregnation process. The methodology used was an economic analysis of the costs incurred by the impregnation process according to the species of Eucalyptus sp. and Pinuscaribaea var. caribaea, also proposed a linear programming model to minimize them. The main results showed that the species with the best results was Eucalyptus sp. The UEB spends around 1 million cuc annually for the preservative concept, only when using the Pinuscaribaeavarcaribaea as the main species for the production of 30,000 Public Utilities Posts, being more feasible the sale of this species as sawn wood, obtaining gains of 2% over current ones. The optimal solution of the model showed that in the UEB it is more feasible only public utility poles of Eucalyptus sp should be produced, which would mean a saving of more than 50% of the current costs of the impregnation process, being able to double the current production if It will have enough raw material. The use of Eucalyptus sp will allow the production of posts of more than 12 m, which are currently imported by the National Electric Union.
