Abstract

The development of environmental education contributes to the acquisition and construction, individually and collectively, of knowledge and skills for the transformation of the forms of relationship between human societies and natural systems. For this it is necessary to modify actions and forms of coexistence, including the development of values and attitudes. So it was proposed to develop a set of activities to promote environmental education in fifth-graders with mental retardation of the special school «Isidro Barredo Diaz» Consolación del Sur municipality. It was evidenced the presence of irresponsible behaviors that attempt against the care and protection of the environment, among the most notorious were found: they take points to the pencils on the tables, they throw papers out of the basket, they throw waste of the snack in the outer areas They do not take care of the cleanliness of the premises and there are marked rates of violence between them and with the environment. During the investigation, different theoretical, empirical methods and statistical procedures were used that allowed a scientific study of the research object to answer the problem. The set of activities and their application in educational practice allows favoring the development of environmental education in students and enhance knowledge, ways of acting positively to the environment.
